Newborn Photoshoots! All you need to know.
When's the best time to book?
The best time to book in is after your 20 week scan to ensure a spot is reserved for you around your due date. Because babies are unpredictable and can arrive when they are ready to, I can only book in a small number of newborns per month. Booking early can ensure you have got a space! If you have missed this window please do still get in touch because there is still a chance I can fit you in!
What if the baby is early/late?
No problem! As I previously mentioned babies can arrive when they want to and are very rarely on time! This is why I limit my number of bookings each month to accommodate late and early arrivals. Once your baby is here all you need to do is send me a message within 48 hours and we can confirm a date and time for your pre booked session. The best time to do a newborn session is between 5-14 days, if your baby is already older than this please do get in touch because it is still possible to capture some precious newborn photographs!
What if baby is unhappy during the session?
I always leave plenty of time for newborn sessions to allow for feeding, changing and time for soothing your baby. Most of my newborn sessions take around 2-3 hours to complete so there is absolutely no rush, I also have a number of techniques to settle your baby and more often than not send them off to sleep.
What do we bring?
Each newborn client receives an information pack on booking and another once your baby has arrived. This details a lot of tips about what colours mum and dad should wear for family photos, colour choices of the session and other items to consider bringing. I absolutely love including personal items in sessions, this can be anything from a wedding dress to a boxing glove and anything else in between. Sentimental or a hobby, if it's personal to you then it makes a great photo!
Can siblings be included in the session?
Absolutely! Because of the length of newborn sessions I always suggest doing family/sibling photos first and someone taking the siblings home or for a trip to the park for the remainder of the session. I know how much of an important role dogs can be in the family so well behaved fur babies are also welcome!
What is your studio like?
My studio is a beautiful garden studio in the New Forest, It is comfortable, private and a lovely space to be in. There are always drinks and snacks in my studio however you are more than welcome to bring your own food during a newborn session. Parents can sit and relax on the sofa while I capture some beautiful memories of their new baby. During sessions the studio is kept nice and warm for newborns so keep that in mind when choosing what to wear.
How do we see our images after the session?
Well now this is an exciting one! As of April 2019 the icing on the cake for every session is a private viewing of your gallery. At the end of your session we will book a date in for you to come back to the studio and look through the entire gallery I have created for you. The best part about coming back to view them is being able to see the photographs on a big screen and being able to ask any questions you may have about products and packages to ensure you leave with your perfect order.
When's the best time to bring my baby back for an update?
I love welcoming my families back for updates and I have designed a 'watch me grow' session package to allow people to do this whilst saving some money! In this package I capture the babie(s) at newborn, then once they are sitting up and finally when they are turning 1 for a cake smash! These, to me are some of the key milestones of their first year and completely priceless to look back on!
Can we be in the photos too?
I absolutely must encourage Parents getting in on the photos, family photos are so important not only for you but also for your baby when they are older. If you really aren't feeling up to it there are always ways for you to be present in the photographs in a more subtle way.
If you have any other questions that I haven't mentioned I would love to hear them! Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or over facebook!
