I just can't write another blog without talking about 2 recent cake smashes I did a few weeks ago...
I always let the parents have a choice of themes and colours of their cake smash or offer to help them come up with one by showing them through all my colours, outfits and backdrops before the shoot date to create a fun and colourful set up. However, for these cake smashes it was up to me to decide the colour schemes and themes and I had so much fun doing it and loved the result!
First to get her hands on her birthday cake was Lori, she was a little bit cautious at first however once she was shown the ropes and tasted a little bit of icing suddenly big chunks of cake were falling all over the place! Lori's theme was very girly and pretty with beautiful pastel pinks and lots of other shades of pink incorporated to tie everything in.
Before I bring the cake out I always get a mixture of shots of them because as I always say... Once the cake comes out you can't go
back! For this shoot I chose a lovely vintage flower crate to sit her in to compliment the theme going on behind her.
Lori's session was so much fun and she definitely has a lot of brilliant facial expressions up her sleeve along with a gorgeous smile too! The clean up operation after a cake smash requires a lot of wipes as you can imagine but the results are amazing and a great way to look back on your little ones first birthday fun.
Later that same day it was Harry's turn to be let loose on his cake... and he wasn't hanging around! He was fascinated by the fondant number 1 on the top of his custom cake and seemed to love poking the bright red icing. Once the wooden spoon came out there was no stopping him!
The set up I chose for Harry was red and white polka dots with matching cake and outfit, it turns out this was a great theme to pick too as Daddy is a saints fan so that worked out brilliantly.
Harry needed a little time to warm up his cheeky smiles, as a lot of children and babies do so the pre-cake photos were essential to get him a bit more used to me and the camera before the main event!
If your little one is under one years old or approaching a birthday (of any age!) I would love to hear from you to plan them a cake smash, If you like the idea but your child has allergies then a fruit smash is a great alternative!
